This month the talent behind the great artwork in Kid Scoop News shared with me one of his favorite books, The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. It turns out that this book was one of my childhood favorites as well. It is truly a classic enjoyed by generations of children and families.
Ferdinand is the world’s most peaceful and beloved little bull. While all of the other bulls snort, leap and butt their heads, Ferdinand is content to just sit and smell the flowers under his favorite cork tree.
And he does just that, until the day a bumblebee, and some men from the Madrid bullfights, give gentle Ferdinand a chance to be the most ferocious star of the corrida— but things don’t turn out quite as planned.
Leaf’s simple storytelling paired with Lawson’s pen-and-ink drawings combine to make The Story of Ferdinand a delightful read-aloud experience for you and your child.
