Your own kitchen is one of the best places to cook up learning! In addition to teaching your child the important life skill of cooking, the process of planning and preparing a meal involves a number of ways your child can put skills learned in the classroom to practical use.
READING: Following written, step-by-step instructions is a lifelong skill. You can also give verbal instructions to a recipe as well.
MATH: Measuring cups, figuring out meal portions, weighing ingredients, and setting temperatures and cooking times all require math.
SCIENCE: Cooking is chemistry! From heating to thawing, boiling and mixing ingredients, science is always on the menu!
ORGANIZATION: Planning and clean up all will build your child’s sense of confidence in managing a task through completion.
PERSEVERENCE: Mistakes will be made. That’s okay! Like most things in life, cooking takes some trial-and-error to achieve success.
