Learning Tip of the Month

Growing a Reader

Like learning how to play a guitar or swing a bat, learning how to read takes practice. The more a child reads, the better he/she gets. It’s that simple. Along the way, young readers need coaches, like you the parent! Help them through rough spots and cheer their successes.

READING PRACTICE:

The ability to read accurately and quickly is called “fluency.” An easy way to help your child’s fluency is to listen to him/her read the same pages repeatedly until all the “bumps in the road” get smoothed out. Reading favorite books out loud over and over again is a great way to get that fluency practice!
