At several points in your child’s years in school he or she will be asked to understand how a seed grows into a plant. Interest in this topic and other science topics grows when children have hands-on experiences at home!
WHAT YOU NEED:
WHAT TO DO:
1. Wet a paper towel and put it in a plastic bag.
2. Place a bean seed in the bag and seal it closed.
3. Tape the bag to a sunny window.
4. Check the bag everyday and watch your little seed grow.
5. When it gets bigger, plant it in the ground or in a pot.
A variety of seeds work perfectly for this project: lima bean seeds, string bean seeds, soy bean seeds and more.
EXTRA FUN:
Make three or more bags with seeds. Have each one be a little different. One could have less water. One could be taped to a wall, not a window. One could be kept in the refrigerator. Do the seeds grow differently? Discuss why or why not.
