Awaken the Magic of Reading
To read, kids need topics they’re interested in presented in a way that entices them to read. That’s where Kid Scoop News comes in. Unlike digital devices, with Kid Scoop News, students get their own personal copy to hold and read, write in, cut up and take home. Sometimes it’s the only reading material they have. Each issue ‘wraps’ favorite topics like sports, pets and science in activities such as word searches, drawing and puzzles kids really love. That’s the magic!

Engage

Science shows that parents play a powerful role in their child’s success in school and in life. The Kid Scoop News Parent Engagement Program reaches parents and caregivers, and connects with public schools and other non-profit organizations. We host workshops, camps, and gatherings to Awaken the Magic of Reading at home with easy-to-do formulas to make reading at home a long-lasting family affair. We guide parents to have fun while supporting their child’s success.

The more fun kids have, the more time spent reading!

Kid Scoop News partners with local and national organizations, expanding our reach to include parents, teachers, children, and community. We keep moving toward that vision of a society equipped to decode the complexities of our times.

Kid Scoop News supports a community of teachers who applaud the Science of Reading basis of Kid Scoop News.  In turn, parents experience the joy of seeing their children succeed.

KSN includes the 5 Pillars for effective reading found in the Science of Reading:

pillar

a. Phonics: Matching sounds to letters or letter groups and blending them together.

pillar

b. Phonemic Awareness: The ability to identify the different sounds that make up speech.

pillar

c. Fluency: The ability to read accurately and quickly.

pillar

d. Vocabulary: Understanding the meaning of individual words.

pillar

e. Comprehension: Making meaning of text.

KSN addresses another skill essential not just for English language learners, but all young learners – Oral language development.

KSN is meant to be shared and explored with enthusiasm and curiosity~ each page filled with graphics and questions that ask students to think critically and out loud. The text includes learning how words sound, what words and sentences mean, and promotes communicating ideas.

parents are vital to our success

Parent Engagement Program

Science shows that parents play a powerful role in their child’s success in school and in life. This can seem daunting to many parents.

They worry that they don’t know how to be a teacher, that they don’t have time to tutor their child, that they lack the right skills and temperament. So many stresses add up to creating a range of conflicts and upsets around academic and reading activities at home.

At Kid Scoop News, we aim to show parents and other caregivers that joyful and engaging experiences with reading lead to a child’s achievements as well as their social-emotional health.

Let the teachers and tutors teach, parents cheer! (And have fun!)

Doug Fenn Wilson

Kids Scoop News is an organization, which comes with a wonderful team of Sonoma players, some of whom you might know) advocates literacy for kids and promotes a very clever and effective tabloid-style publication disseminated to grade school kids in several parts of the US. (And growing!) I LOVE helping excite kids about reading, and am very much behind their cause. I offered the Moon House as a venue for a major gala last May—their first--which was carefully organized, very well attended, and wonderfully successful.
